Photographer and sociologist, Iberia Torres Abelaira, the daughter of Spanish immigrants who settled in Pucon in 1943, relates the history of her hometown since the foundation in 1883 until the paving of the road between Pucon and Villarica in 1969.

The text is illustrated with photographs drawn from family albums and old postcards. The stories and photos bring alive a Pucon that today is only a memory, by taking us into the streets, hotels, tourism, transport, shops and timber industry.

CHARLA EN LA EMBAJADA DE CHILE EN LONDRES.

El 14 de septiembre del presente año (2016) di una charla sobre mi libro PUCON: Así era mu pueblo, 1883-1969, en la embajada de Chile en Londres.

A la charla asistieron, además de numeroso publico, el señor embajador don Rolando Drago y el agregado cultural señor Cristian León.

Los asistentes se mostraron muy interesados en el tema y sumamente sorprendidos por las anécdotas y fotografías antiguas que abarcan temas que van desde los Mapuche, los colonos, los paisajes, la arquitectura, los hoteles, la industria maderera, los visitantes importantes y hasta la moda de la época.

Todos digieran haber disfrutado de la charla enormemente y haber aprendido un poco mas de historia de Chile y en particular de la región de la Araucanía.

Este es un esfuerzo mas de mi parte para dar a conocer mi pueblo natal y la región de la Araucanía.
